Uplifting melodies, swirling harmonies, and probing lyrics provide a hook from start to finish in ‘Commodity’ - the second indie rock offering from environmental architect and emerging artist, DUEL NATIVE.
Building upon the success of debut single, ‘Sacrosanct’, half-Trinidadian, half-Hong-Kongese, UK-born, Australian-based artist DUEL NATIVE delivers another raw and rewarding four minutes of simple, honest songwriting, delivered straight from the heart.
“We live in a society that sometimes forgets that not everything is a commodity, not everything can be traded; some things are just not for sale. This song is about realising our own value. It’s also about the true ‘mirrors’ in our lives - the people who help us to see ourselves more clearly.” – DUEL NATIVE
‘Commodity’ sees DUEL NATIVE open up to new and loyal followers in a unique way, asking people across the globe to send a picture of something they own, which they would never sell - aligned to the core messaging of the song.
“We were sent photos and accompanying stories from all kinds of people. They were reflections on personal objects - things they hoped to keep for life. Usually it was something that may be worth little to anyone else, but invaluable to them. We took these contributions and manufactured one-of-a-kind ‘trading cards’ that we’re sharing with fans. It’s a little bit of playful irony, because the cards picture things that would never be traded.” – DUEL NATIVE
lyrics
When will you realise you're a commodity?
When will you realise you're a commodity?
Because you
Because you
Because you do that for me
Why don't you compromise your love for free?
See that you've based your life on things that others see
Because you
Because you
Because you do that for me
At the back of my heart
At the back there's a part no cold could ever freeze
At the back of my heart, I know, you know, one day I might believe
At the back of my heart
At the back there's a part no-one could ever breach
At the back of my heart, I know, you know, one day I might believe
Stop...
One, two, three, go!
Because you
Because you
Because you do that for me
At the back of my heart
At the back there's a part no cold could ever freeze
At the back of my heart, I know, you know, one day I might believe
At the back of my heart
At the back there's a part no-one could ever breach
At the back of my heart, I know, you know, one day I might believe
When will you realise?
